Medium sized shrub, 1 to 8 feet tall, with gray stems, pale green leaves and bright yellow flowers. Has a deep tap root. It is am important food source for mule deer during the winter as it is high in protein and nutrients. Native Americans have used its branches, leaves and flowers for baskets, cough medicine and chewing gum. It is currently a source of rubber used in many applications.
